This intervention reinstates historical canopies based on archival documents, ensuring architectural continuity along the Rue de la Bourse. The work forms part of the broader urban reevaluation of the Bourse’s surroundings, alongside the transformation of shopfronts, the refurbishment of commercial spaces, and the renovation of listed buildings.
Two specialist teams — each composed of architects, engineers, and metalworkers — carried out the work in collaboration with the City of Brussels, heritage researchers, and conservation specialists. The challenge was to reinstate canopies faithful to their originals using artisanal metalwork expertise, while meeting contemporary safety standards for glazing and structure, and maintaining architectural coherence throughout.
